Introducing Digital Archives Project

Chartered during the Japanese colonial period in Taiwan, the National Taiwan University (NTU) has a long history with many disciplines; it has collected important archives, specimens, and cultural relics for research and teaching purposes. These collections have witnessed the history, people, and nature of Taiwan and cover various fields. These unique and valuable collections are important resources in academic research. Participating in the National Digital Archives Program helps to accelerate the digitization of these collections at NTU and the establishment of a database. The multiple collections which are composed by the cultural characteristics of Taiwan from collections dating back to the Taihoku Imperial University period, the predecessor of NTU, can be put to use by people. Not only will the promotion of academic research be benefited, the precious collection data can also be preserved and further promoted by applying information technology to achieve the dual function of both preservation and utilization. Now the digitization of NTU Museums has approached its sixth year. In the video, you will see the digitization progress of the six categories which include, Taiwanese archives, plants, insects, animals, geology ad anthropology, and also the fruitful output of the digital archive’s value-added application.
