NTU Department of Geosciences owns a plenty of precious collections of fossils, minerals, and rocks in excess of 3,500 specimens. The sources of these specimens include researching specimens, education specimens, personal contribution, and sampling of professors and students of department of Geosciences. These collections provide a valuable resource for elhi-school students, research workers and anyone who is interested in geology. Geo-specimen Cottage was brought into existence in 2003 to exhibit these worthy collections, and then joined NTU Museums in 2007. We hope to fulfill the social educational function and responsibility of the NTU museums, with the rich collections, and to open to the local community and the public.

Geo-specimen Cottage is an independent building next to Department of Geosciences. Since it has been established in the time of Japanese Authorization, its Japanese-styled exterior, such as column louvers, black tiles, and antiquated woody roof, all make you recall the old exotic days. It has been long used as a warehouse until recently. We initialized the plan to restore the building in September of 2003, and spent half of one year to plan and construct. Currently it has become a new landmark combining leisure and educational function. The collections are arranged at two sides. At right side, we store up specimens that are digitalized under the working of National Archives Digital Museum, which aims to preserve precious resources by digital archives. The special exhibits are held periodically at the left side to display the study effort of department of Geosciences. Besides, Geo-specimen Cottage also arranges representative rocks in the forecourt of department of Geosciences. The outdoor exhibition of rocks exhibits the representative rocks in Taiwan and displays the geological characteristics of Taiwan. By looking into geological environment of Taiwan, we try to explain geological knowledge to the public with vivid illustrations and comprehensible descriptions and to draw people to the place where they dwell in.
